In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, workplace structure is changing and evolving. For many businesses, flexible work options like hybrid schedules and fully remote work are now the norm. For Anastasia and Ryan Zygarowicz-Bartlett, the transition to working remotely in Auburn, NY offered countless possibilities. On this episode of The Auburn Possibility, you’ll learn more about what brought these tech-savvy millennials to the city of Auburn, and why they decided to work, live, and create—right from their Auburn home.
After attending college in the area, Anastasia and Ryan decided to take root in Auburn. Anastasia’s diverse work background started in Auburn’s non-profit scene, where she worked for Auburn landmarks like the Schweinfurth Art Center and the Auburn Public Theater. Ryan ran a bookstore in Auburn for years, before working remotely.
According to Anastasia and Ryan, one of the best parts of living in Auburn is its central location. They frequently travel to New York City and Toronto, as well as closer Finger Lakes attractions like Ithaca and Skaneateles. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the couple was prepared to stay put—in their beloved, vibrant FLX city of Auburn.
For the couple, Auburn provided the perfect opportunities for remote work. Auburn’s low cost of living allowed the couple the space to spread out in a new, larger home, and the flexibility to follow their passion projects. Anastasia set up shop working on her successful blog, Leaf and Paw, (with a little help from Ryan and his web development know-how), while Ryan continued his work for a Syracuse-based tech company, right from the comfort of their home. Working from home in Auburn meant plenty of flexibile options for work, along with scenic spots to explore off-the-clock.
Now more than ever, Auburn attracts folks like Anastasia and Ryan, who are looking for a community that feels like home. There are growing opportunities in technology and manufacturing here in Auburn if you want to get hands-on and head to work outside of the home every day.
If working remotely is more your speed, Auburn’s perfect for that, too, away from the hustle and bustle. With a burgeoning arts scene, award-winning breweries and restaurants, and the beauty of the Finger Lakes, there’s no shortage of things to do after work. We got to talk with this tech-savvy couple to learn more about the opportunities available for working remotely in Auburn, and the many perks of living in a small city.
